Yesterday, after a day of baking muffins, Mary announced that she wanted to watch a Christmas movie. The only one that we have in our collection is A Nightmare Before Christmas and she didn’t want to see that. So, I searched the guide for anything Christmas-sy. I found The Polar Express on ABC Family. I fired up the projector; Dobry curled up under a blanket on the sectional; I shook a couple of martinis for Mary and I.
It was bad enough that the movie wasn’t in its original aspect ratio, but then we watched commercial after commercial after commercial after commercial. It wouldn’t have been so bad, but they were so bloody loud and repetitive— “New on Disney DVD ...” And by loud, I mean the greatest difference between program and commercial that I’ve ever heard. Now, I haven’t installed an IR repeater yet, and with all of the electronics hidden in the bar, I had to get up to use the remote, trying at least to be able to bounce the remote signal off the wall behind the bar. Life can still be rough sometimes.
At least there was a bonus after the movie ended at 8pm— BBC America had an episode of Dr. Who— and it was widescreen as well.
