This is the first actual post. I think it was Phillip Roth who said of John Updike that he didn't possess a single thought that he hadn't published. So, in the spirit of John Updike, I decided to record the minutia of what we eat and watch. To me at least, this sounds quintessentially American.

So it's Friday late afternoon and I've already got a drink in me-- Irish cream and espresso vodka. Normally, I don't drink many sweet drinks, but we recently stocked the bar and the sample chick at the liquor store last weekend recommended this drink. I'll try just about anything that's recommended sincerely.

Mary is cooking dinner. She asked me if she should use hamburger or smoked Polish sausage in the sauce for the rotini. I told her that hamburger would probably be best. If I were doing it, I'd use the beef to make meatballs-- add a bit of egg, bread crumbs, some basil, thyme, black pepper-- then sautee them in a bit of olive oil. Or maybe poach them in the tomato sauce so they pick up some tomato flavor. But I'm not cooking tonight and I'm thinking of how the smoked Polish sausage would taste in a jar pasta sauce.

For TV tonight, I plan on firing up the projector to watch the new Dr. Who. There's very few TV shows that I schedule and this is one. Mary can't watch Battlestar Galactica afterwards-- she says that it's too stressful for her. This is also why we stopped watching 24.
